RVS drives down Swindon’s costs
Swindon Commercial Services Ltd (SCS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swindon Borough Council, has placed an order for six re-manufactured RCVs from Gloucestershire-based re-man- ufacturing specialists Refuse Vehicle Solutions (RVS).
The vehicles, all with 6x4 standard width Dennis Elite 2 chassis, will be delivery at the end of February and comprise three Dennis Phoenix 2 bod- ies with OTTO Continental 2 bin-lifts for domestic waste and three Geesink GPM3 bodies with Combi S3 trade bin- lifts for green trade waste. “Last year we bought a vehicle from RVS and when it was delivered, in under three weeks, it was difficult to
tell it apart from a new vehicle,” says Martin Britchford, fleet buyer, SCS. “If we can get the equivalent life- time and operational standards from re-manufactured vehicles as we can from new vehicles, at the same time making significant savings against capital costs, we are able to provide a much better value for money service.” RVS specialises in the re-manufac-
turing of second-hand refuse collec- tion vehicles from full or partial body re-manufacturing to the provision of a complete RCV. The company also offers a parts, safety equipment and lighting products service.
“We are delighted to have been awarded such a significant contract
Re-manufactured, but good as new
and to be continuing our relationship with SCS,” adds Spencer Law, RVS’s managing director. “Our vehicles are in a league of their own and because we are not at the mercy of manufacturer’s lead times we can often deliver vehi- cles that match a customer’s specifica- tion, much quicker.”

In 2010, Sentinel launched a new radar detection system which has proved to be very successful, with improved reliability and performance. As a result, the radar system is now being exported to many different countries, including America, Germany, and Australia. Furthermore, 2011 saw the launch of Sentinel’s new fully adjustable radar. This system can be adjusted to detect a person or object at a distance of over 5 metres away. The implementation of this system has led to global enquiries and an increase in worldwide sales. Sentinel also supplies many of the biggest waste and recycling companies in the UK with its radar systems as well as supplying over 1800 reversing systems to the two biggest supermarket companies in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Sentinel’s development team is currently working on a completely new system which it expects to launch later in 2012, continuing its work in the prevention of both repairs to vehicles and injury to employees and the public.
