South Tyneside Council has switched on to Whitespace WS’s Power Suite environmental services software to help its waste services staff increase productivity and control daily opera- tions, including covering reporting, invoicing and management responsi- bilities.
“We have upgraded to Power Suite
to help us manage our processes, asso- ciated with both commercial waste and payment collection, far more effec- tively,” explains Andrew Whittaker, waste services manager. “This system will make our waste operations even more efficient and further enhance our customer service levels.”
For the council’s rounds and routing activities, Power Suite’s multi-layered scheduling engine allows the alloca- tion of containers, mixed bins and sacks, or services against locations and is mapped over time. The sys- tem’s worksheets module deals with all ad-hoc activities and supports pro-

cesses that include the delivery and collection of containers and sacks – as well as complaints. Contracts, invoic- es and duty of care agreements can all be automatically cre- ated by the system, says Whitespace.
Using Power Suite, the local authority can also produce reports on the success of its com- mercial waste department. For invoicing and customer care
activities, the system’s single database integrates with the council’s existing IT systems. The database produces exportable reports on all aspects of system information and also logs and

monitors contracts, together with vari- ations for both scheduled and unsched- uled work – in addition to complaints and resulting remedial action. The system ensures that customer invoicing and queries accurately reflect the informa- tion and history across the entire commer- cial waste department, claims Whitespace. This leads to optimal revenue
creation/collection and liberates staff resources, by reducing the amount of manual data input.
