SMART DESIGNS, SMART RECYCLING New breed Spiders scale market
A new generation of single-shaft shred- ders is available to the UK materials reprocessing sector.
The three Spider HRS models, from Fercell Engineering – Weima UK, while following in the mould of Weima’s WLK series of single-shaft shredders, have new features. The series is based on a modular, interchangeable system while the standardisation of the shred- der component parts offers operator flexibility and easy access to mainte- nance, claims Weima UK.
The new breed shredders, available through sole UK distributor Fercell Engineering of Aylesford, Kent, are supplied in rotor widths of 1,000mm, 1,500mm and 2,000mm, with a rotor diameter of 450mm, delivering rota- tional speeds of up to 150 rpm. The spider’s modular design allows
for easy access to the interchangeable pressing system for variable materials flows to include lumps, film and hol- low moulds. The company also says that unrestricted access to the cutting system means that cleaning and servic- ing are quick and easy to perform. The pressing system hydraulics
installed
beneath the machine housing can be fully removed via a sliding draw. Equipped with swivel
a driven screen
hydraulically- basket,
this
mechanism helps prevent jamming of material between the rotor and the inner screen wall, says Weima UK. The screening surface around the rotor has been increased for faster material throughput, while the reduced size of the individual screen elements make screen replacement easier than ever, claims Weima UK.
The Spider shredder
Optional special equipment provides for rotor cooling; hydraulic and gear- box oil cooling; rotor Vautid coating and rotor knife configurations; second counter knife; direct drive water-cool- ing; and hydraulic drive with variable speed. The spider is in operation at Viridor’s MRF in Crayford, Kent.
