Easy Load, a Dartford-based waste and recycling company, has started operat- ing a new waste sorting plant, built and installed by Duo Manufacturing. An upgrade to Easy Load’s existing facilities, the new plant has improved the waste sorting process, adding value to the family’s business.
Easy Load receives waste materi- als through its skip business, which removes waste from households, schools, government contracts, local builders and national construction companies. Designed to handle 50 tonnes of waste per hour, the Duo Manufacturing plant processes a mix of materials, although construction and demolition waste contributes a large proportion of the overall waste. Prior to feeding the plant Easy Load pre-sort the waste using a mobile

screen and by hand, removing any combustible or corrosive materials and materials over 600mm or 25kg in size. A wheeled loader passes the pre- sorted material into a Duo-designed and supplied feed hopper. After the material leaves the feed hopper, it passes via a vibrating feeder and onto a conveyor which feeds into a trommel screen. The Duo-designed and supplied trommel grades the fines fraction into two sizes by further screening. Oversized material exits the trom-
mel and is fed onto a link conveyor to a picking station. This link conveyor is fitted with an air knife blower, situated below the head drum, which separates any oversized lightweight materials and transfers them to a light cage. The heavy materials transfer to a picking belt and operators select and reject specific materials. The unpicked material passes under an overband magnet to remove any ferrous metals before going on to be stockpiled. The waste material is sold to busi- nesses, reducing waste to landfill. Before Duo Manufacturing supplied the MRF, Easy Load had to remove saleable materials by hand. The new set up avoids this process and improves the MRF’s efficiency, claims Duo.
