ooking for a pre-Valentine’s Day outdoor event to share time in nature with a sweetheart (whether partner, fam- ily member, or friend)? The Sleeping Giant Park Association (SGPA) invites the public to its Winter Tree Identification Hike on Sunday, February 12. Hikers will meet at the bul- letin board by the kiosk near the park entrance at 1:30 p.m. The hike is expected to last about three hours and involve traveling over uneven, rocky terrain, possibly with a degree of rock scrambling. Hikers should be in good physical condi- tion, dress for the weather, and wear comfortable, supportive shoes with good traction. The hike is free. Advanced registra- tion is not necessary; however, minors must be accompa- nied by a responsible adult and have signed permission of

Consider joining the group at another of its 2012 hikes, which include: History-of-the-Giant, Spring Wildflower, Geology-of-the-Giant, Biodiversity, Fall Foliage and Introduction-to-the-Giant. (SGPA) was formed in 1924 to acquire land on and around the series of ridges in Mount Carmel (known as the Sleeping Giant) for use as a state park. It is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to protect and enlarge the park, including trail maintenance, land acquisition, printing of newsletters, trail maps, and more.
