Clare, who now works at Dublin's Therapie Clinic, trained as a Beauty Therapist at Senior College, Dun Loghaire. She reached the final to represent her country after winning the National Beauty Therapy Competition held at the Irish Beauty Show in Dublin in 2010. She was supported by Sharon Finney, who won a silver medal in the WorldSkills Competition held in Switzerland in 2003, amd who acted as Clare's expert for the competition.
Commenting before the competition, Clare told IB: "Senior College encouraged me to take part in the college competition which then led to me taking part in the National Competition where I came in first place and has led me to this fantastic opportunity to represent my country in my chosen skill."
The Beauty Therapy category was won by Shuner Villanueva Leong from Singapore, with Heidi Huttunen of Finland taking second place and Jenica Bubar from Canada coming third.
