The manicure area, towards the front of the salon and clearly visible from the full glass front of the salon, hosts 10 nail bars in warm wood with lush purple velvet upholstered chairs for clients to relax in. Despite the size of the room, sitting one-to- one with Head Therapist Kate felt intimate as we chatted.
The pedicure area at the back of the salon is home to ten cream leather pedicure chairs, arranged in a semi- circle, offering a relaxing environment for clients and the therapists plenty of room to work.
The ethos of Mink is to offer pure indulgence to their clients, both in terms of their environment and treatments, something which they’ve definitely achieved. It’s not hard to see why the salon is achieving 90% occupancy on a Saturday (18 staff were working at the salon on the Saturday before my visit, with just two 15-minute treatment slots not taken). Manager Kate is able to accurately assess the salon’s productivity every day with the use of their software system. This also prints out a daily client list for each therapist, detailing their clients, appointment times and treatments booked.
The team
Today Mink in Donnybrook employs seven members of staff, whilst 18 therapists work at the Ballsbridge salon. Keen to employ the best that Dublin has to offer, Mink’s team consists of nail technicians and therapists from across the globe, including Poland, Hungary, Thailand and South Korea.
Head Therapist Kate Tokarska explained that continual education of the team is taken very seriously at Mink. “October is a great month for training the team as the salon is a little quieter so it gives us a good opportunity,” she says. “As Head Therapist I will assess every therapist’s skills and see if there are any areas we need to work on.”
Because the team only perform manicures and pedicures, it means that they are all able to concentrate their talents in these areas, ensuring they perform the best they can.
