Managing Director, Anne McDevitt Products Ltd

"Inmy opinion products work better as a systemrather than mixing different systems together."

"Different brands have been designed and tested to work as a system and therefore mixing products could result in disappointment for both the client and the therapist.

"Some therapists may prefer a different brand topcoat, for example, instead of the one designed to go with the system they are using - this I would think would be ok, but for the likes of Acrylic and Gel I do think it is very important to stick to the same brand. If you mix some of the acrylic and gel products it could result in a lot of lifting and sometimes the enhancements coming off."

Liz Byrne

Distributor, en Vogue Nails Ireland "Yes I do believe you can and will have to mix and match your nail products."

"Getting your nails done is something that clients do for all types of different reasons; as it's an individual thing, they must receive a treatment that suits their needs.

"If the system you have trained with limits your options and doesn't have what your client is looking for, then it's time to retrain and add on with another, but making sure you don't lower the quality of product and service you provide.

"Most products are compatible with each other, but always make sure that you ask that question before purchasing."

"When doing a manicure or pedicure treatment in a salon, it looks much more professional to have a selection of products that are all from the same brand."

"On the other hand if you have all your products in clear jars you can take the best from each system and customise an amazing treatment for your clients and they will love you for it.

"When doing nail enhancements and three-week manicures you are better to stick to the same brand to make sure that they bond to the nail correctly. Nail Art and glitters can be from any brand."

"I don't believe there are any real advantages inmixing products from different brands."

"On the contrary, some combinations may hinder penetration of the active ingredients and thus slow the process of reaching the end goal. Mixing ingredients that aren't compatible can, in some cases, cause a skin reaction.

"The fundamental key to mixing products, should you choose to do so, is to know your ingredients! Some ingredients when combined could have adverse effects on the skin which is why skin care brands generally do not advocate a mix and match strategy."

Shelly McMurray

Business Development Director, He-Shi Tanning

"Ideally, inmy opinion, you should stick to one brand if itworks for you. The productswithin a rangewill have been developed specifically to complement each other."

"In tanning, the He-Shi collection has everything you need for the perfect tan so there is no need to introduce another brand. Brand loyalty also encourages repeat purchases, plus it is less confusing for the salon and therapists selling the ranges."

"When you are starting out in professional skin care it will be more successful for you to stick to using one brand."

"The training from the brand will help you to decide what products work best for your client's skin type. As you then become more proficient that leaves you with the opportunity to include another brand in the future.

"Alternatively if you push the boundaries to study advanced skin care and you acquire an in-depth knowledge of ingredients, their actions and when to apply them, follow this with advanced skin analysismethodology, and you could set your self apart fromthe crowd as a real expert."
