Spa sector missing out
The Spa sector is missing out on making a further $106 Billion due to poor marketing from Spas and because consumers aren't really understanding the concept of the Spa, according to a research report following the recent Global Spa Summit.

The report, Wellness Tourism and Medical Tourism - Where do Spas Fit?, found that persistent conceptual and terminology issues, combined with weak, or very generic, tourism promotional models, are really holding back the growth of these potentially explosive, very lucrative new tourism categories.
Susie Ellis, GSS Board Member, commented: "This report should be read by every tourism board, Spa and medical facility worldwide. Medical tourists and wellness tourists spend three to five times more than the average tourist, and the financial opportunities within both these sectors are vast. This research will help public and private players establish smarter, overall strategies, organisational structures and marketing campaigns to more powerfully position themselves within these lucrative markets."
The report offers suggestions on how to overcome the issue, including offering clear and consistent definitions, suggesting 'core' definitions (defining the difference between a 'medical tourist' and a 'wellness tourist'), and governments and and private entities should not intermingle these tourisms at the language, organisational or marketing level.
