Silver Explorer in West Africa

Silversea has created three new West Africa expedition itineraries that visit the once colonised northwest countries of the continent, travelling along coastlines infamous for their historic role in the slave trade. The experience also explores the southern waters where huge seabird colonies are sustained by the nutrient- rich upwelling of the icy Benguela current.

Adventurers may spot rare birds, colourful butterflies and wild monkeys on an intimate jungle trek. They will also be introduced to a variety of indigenous cultures, including the origin of voodoo beliefs, the fishing skills of the Tofinu people, and even to spend an afternoon with the school children of a traditional Ewa village.

LONDON Seafood workshops in London

Andaz Liverpool Street in London is presenting seafood workshops to coincide with the London Restaurant Festival (3 – 17 October, 2011). The workshops will give food lovers advice on how to select fresh produce and also prepare a gourmet three-course meal.

Led by Martin Scholz, Head Chef of the hotel’s renowned seafood restaurant Catch, participants will be introduced to seafood suppliers and taught how to select seafood and shop sustainably at Old Billingsgate market, before heading to an exclusive private event room for breakfast.

Scholz will then demonstrate simple tips such as the art of cracking a crab as well as specific dishes from the seasonal Catch menu. Guests can then enjoy a formal sit down lunch with the Hotel’s Head Sommelier pairing wines to the dishes created and offering advice on matching wine with seafood.
