2011 WSMA Festival Rules Revisions

The recommendations of WSMA Festivals Adjudica- tion, Concert, Solo and Ensemble, and Music Selection committees were brought to the June WSMA Board meeting for approval. Current classroom teachers’ needs were the basis for the committee recommenda- tions. Beginning with the 2011-12 festival season, vocalists will have expanded opportunities in madrigal, show choir and vocal jazz events. By teacher request, Co-op special ensembles and expanded offerings for string ensembles are now permitted. Rules revisions also include reduction of fees for co-op concert reg- istrations, a clarification for district and state festival student participation. Several events were revised to “permission required” allowing teachers to submit suggested music for performance. In addition, trumpet/ trombone, trombone/euphonium duets will now allow limited transfer between the two events.
