April showers were in full effect in many parts of the country, with several retailers blaming the weather for slower-than-usual sales. Still, weather-related rea- sons paled in comparision to more positive aspects of improved sales reported by respondents. Many still enjoyed the benefits of tax season, while others cited an increase in installations — particularly larger jobs and boat installs — as a reason for profit boosts. Marketing also plays a key role in sale improvements. One retailer ran a gas card promotion, while another increased advertising to promote a new location. Still another used Facebook to promote sponsorship of lo- cal Friday Night drag races.

UP: “We had multiple large jobs in the shop, one boat and one RV. If those were pulled from the sce- nario, business would have been average.” - Extreme Audio, Inc., Mechanicsville, Va. “There are finally IASCA and USACi shows in our area so we have gained some sales with people getting ready for those shows. Mostly in labor for tweaking and tuning, but we like that.” - Majestic Mu- sic Car Audio, Salem, Ore. “Excited customers looking to spend tax refunds; I’m

taking advantage of that with specials that maximize their investment.” - Mobile AVC, Garden City Park, N.Y.

FLAT: “Weather is the same — rainy. Summer

hasn’t hit yet. Things should pick up when summer gets here.” - Boomer Car Stereo, Boston, Mass.
