In Conversation With - Nicola Mealia................................................................................................................................................................. Striving for perfection

Nicola Mealia, Managing Director of Chleo Enterprises, chats to IB about her life in and out of work

My mother Katharine Hurley founded Chleo Enterprises 25 years ago. I suppose I grew up involved in this industry, it is in my blood! I did Fashion Design in the Grafton Academy and worked as a Fashion Buyer for a big retail company in the UK for three years. My mother started to think about retirement and I just couldn’t let a business that she had built up from nothing be sold to someone else. With the experience I gained in the UK, I was now ready to lead and develop Chleo Enterprises.

I love the variety in my job. I have been full time in the business for over 12 years. I know every aspect of our business and have worked in nearly every department. I am a perfectionist and believe strongly in good service and family values. I love the travel element and get to visit some really nice places and meet some amazing people. My biggest passion is sales, if you don’t believe in what you are selling, the person you are selling to will not believe you. Our office is a really nice place to work, we have a great team and great brands. Our suppliers are like family and we are very lucky to have this type of relationship with them.

An average day for me is hectic! I have three children between the ages of four and eight and Chleo Enterprises is my fourth baby! It is a constant juggling act. I spend a lot of my time on my phone and email. Communication is so important. My family time is really important and once I leave the office I have no choice but to try and switch off. It is the children’s time then.

“I am a perfectionist and believe strongly in good service and family values.”

In my spare time keeping fit and healthy is really important to me. I do Pilates twice a week and I love it. It is ‘me’ time! Otherwise I enjoy getting out for walks at the weekend with the children. I have a great family and some great friends and I love nothing other than a night out with them and a good old chat.

I am the best multi-tasker and I forget nothing. Because I am a perfectionist and I have very high standards. This is seen in the efficiency of our service and the standard with which we do things. We have been told many times that our service and support is the best there is.

I love Sothys new Escape Body Programme, customised treatments that are 100% personalised for the client depending on their mood or preferences. The smells are out of this world and you feel on top of this world for hours after.

I couldn’t live without the support from my husband. He is my rock at home and my rock and partner in business. It is not always easy working and living together but we manage it amazingly well!

Growing up I would have to say my Mother was my childhood hero. She worked hard and yet managed to raise four children. She is so honest and has installed great family values into us all. I have to give my Father a little mention because he was her rock then and in their retired life is now. I have huge respect for them both.

My motto for living life is “If you look good you feel good!” Being fi t and healthy defi nitely make you more productive and a better person. I never go out without making an effort with myself.

I would like to be remembered for being fair and honest and having good standards in my business and personal life.
