Star Letter Dear IB,
I am thinking of introducing the fish pedicure treatment into my salon. I recently chatted to another salon owner who said that there were issues with Health and Safety and that they might be banned. Can you shed some light on this please as I don’t want to invest lots of money into something that will be bad for my clients or bad for my business.
Thanks
Kerry Connolley - Tramore, Co. Wexford Ed: There’s no doubt that Garra Rufa fish pedicures are gaining popularity, as well as lots of publicity through the media. In America the treatment has been banned in 14 states as health officials fear that the fi sh could spread infections to customers through open wounds, however there’s no legislation governing this therapy in Ireland or the UK so you are perfectly within your rights to offer this to your clients if you choose. I would suggest that if you are considering introducing the treatment that you research the market and supplier well, and make sure you are aware of how to care for the fi sh properly and any contraindications to the treatment. As with any therapy, a salon with well-educated therapists and impeccable health and hygiene rules is always going to get the best out of a treatment.
As this month’s star letter, Kerry wins a year’s free membership to AIT. Dear Irish Beauty
I am due to open my new salon in my home town in July – if I send you some photos would you be able to do a write up for me? I am so proud of what I have achieved and would like to share this with readers.
Betty by email
Ed: Dear Betty, by all means send us some high resolution photographs (300 dpi jpg etc) as well as lots of information about the salon and we can include this in our ‘What’s the Craic?’ section. This goes for all of our readers too – if there’s
something interesting happening at your salon, let us know so we can share your success with our readers. Email your information to

Thanks a million Hi Melissa,
Well done to yourself and all the team on the recent publication of IB – it looks great.
And thanks a million for publishing all of our articles. It is much appreciated as I do realise the time and effort that goes into trying to cater for ‘everyone’s needs’.
Kind regards,
Derek O Kelly - The Waverley Academy (formerly The Irish Academy)

Tricolour crazy! Dear Irish Beauty
Wow, I loved your Tricolour pages in the May issue! I have some bottles of green and orange polish in my salon that I just can’t shift so when I saw your magazine I decided to put the pages on the wall to try and already my clients are asking for funky tricolour-inspired nail designs!
