EA WAS the top publisher of the month and it’s easy to see why with 12 games in the Top 50 (four in the Top Ten alone). Nintendo enjoyed a significant increase in software market share, too. 3DS had a part to play, but it was Pokémon Blackand White that were the firm’s biggest sellers in March.

3DS DEBUTS in the hardware charts this month, sitting ahead of PSP and PS2. As a result of the new handheld taking a slice of the software market, most other consoles saw their share drop, with the notable exceptions being DS and PC. DS and PS3 actually have the same share of the software market by value this month, although a handful more DS games were sold hence the higher position.

XBOX 360 suffered a small fall in market share, but the home console is still comfortably the most successful in terms of software sales. This month a string of multi-format releases – including Homefront, Crysis 2and Dragon Age II – kept the Xbox 360 well ahead of its rivals. Meanwhile, PC had a good month thanks to the release of Sega’s Shogun 2: Total Warand EA’s The Sims: Medieval.
