PEGI – is it really good for business?

THE GAMES MARKET is tough enough without voluntary bodies making life more difficult.

In these austere times, when you are having to cut margin to try and make your products more attractive in

a difficult market, why are PEGI suddenly making hard pushed publishers cost out a separate SKU for USK [the German games rating system]?

Up until now we have had the ability to move stock

around if it failed in one territory because we had been prudent and covered our bases by having created multi-rated packaging. Now we’re told at no notice via email by the organisation that, if we want

their voluntary rating, we have to double our SKUs. Brilliant idea!

So, if we had 15 titles to be released this year that now means we have the cost of putting together artwork and packaging for

30 SKUs. Superb strategy there, PEGI. Still, it’s only (our) money. Warmest regards for a bright future.

THQ, Disney and Funbox are amongst the publishers who put PEGI and USK ratings on their boxes
