Newrecruits

The Waverley Academy (formerly The Irish Academy) continues its expansion plans with the recruitment of four new tutors bringing the total to 20 now employed at the Academy.

Principal Derek O Kelly told IB: “We have reached another milestone in our expansion plans with our recent recruitment drive, with the success of our teacher training programmes playing a major role. Every trainer at the Academy has a recognised training qualification which was obtained through our own teacher training programmes. We are continuing to expand and anyone interested in teaching at the Academy should visit our website.”

Inspiring institute

A series of workshop-style seminars organised by the International Institute for Anti-Ageing (iiaa) have been hailed a success.

The three one-day events held in London, Manchester and Dublin in September gave skin care professionals a close-up insight into new ways to build on their existing business.

The guest speakers at the seminars were nutritional consultant Lorraine Perretta, US make-up artist Kevin Mendelson and anti- ageing specialist Dr Jacques Otto.

Zava Buggy, an independent therapist who attended the event in London, said: “The small, workshop-style groups were a great way to introduce new ideas and products and to get hands-on experience.”

Student promotion draws to a close!

The AIT Student initiative for 2010 has been a storming success with over 1,500 students signing up for the bespoke ‘student membership’ with insurance. AIT is the only provider of this type of package for students that allows them to practice while still learning.

Need for speed

Carrigg Brady Beauty will be back on the roadshow trail for the New Year, bringing their Speed Waxing skills to venues across Ireland for free.

The claim of a Full Leg and Bikini Line wax in less than 10 minutes, free style (no rollers), has been driven down to an average of just seven minutes by Noiren Carrigg, and in all cases with a 100% success rate in front of in front of a packed audience.

Conor Brady, Director, told IB: “Nobody really believes anyone can wax that fast and professionally. We are here to share our knowledge with the therapist and feel that it’s time that distributors bring their business around the country and not always demand a trip up to Dublin - it is proving a huge success.”

This initiative along with the support of key sponsor Graham Anthony and Decléor has proven once again to be a success with AIT running out of the free giveaways only five weeks into the three-month promotion.

AIT’s Managing Director, Dave Horton says: “For the last five years AIT has run the student initiative at a significant loss in an attempt to support the industry, training providers and assist students to gain a more rounded education by incorporating case studies into their training. The AIT policy of visiting colleges, talking to students about good business practice and the importance of insurance has always proven to be invaluable to both colleges and students and by re-iterating the need for every therapist, ‘qualified or training’ to have insurance has been an eye opener for many in attendance. With the support of companies like Graham Anthony, we trust this promotion will run for years to come.”
