Northern Rail scoops prestigious training award N

orthern Rail has triumphed at the regional finals of the

prestigious National Training Awards collecting the trophy as winners in the ‘Large Employer’ category.

In recognition of its outstanding contribution and commitment to training, learning and development in the workplace, the train operator was one of 21 companies to reach the finals, where it picked up the award for its ‘Made to Measure’ leadership programme.

The bespoke leadership programme is designed and delivered, in association with the Brackley Partnership, for middle and senior managers and allows individuals to receive a tailor made development programme that addresses their specific needs.

In their citation the judges praised the approach Northern Rail had taken to move beyond a standard, generic approach to leadership training and viewed the programme as “innovative, creative and challenging”.

Northern Rail managing director Ian Bevan said: “We are delighted that our training programme has been recognised in this way. It’s

important to us that we support and invest in the training of our people and help individuals to develop their skills.

“The award also sends out a positive message to any prospective employees, because it demonstrates how serious we are in terms of training and developing our people.”

Run on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) by UK Skills, the National Training Awards recognise the impact that excellent training, learning and development has on achieving outstanding organisational and individual success and provides a benchmark for standards of excellence in training in the UK.
