Skelair equips for soil-nailing works

Skelair International Ltd supplied the hydraulic excavator mount (HEM) fitted with a TE300HT high-torque rotary-percussive drifter head to Can Geotechnical in Chesterfield.

The HEM package was manufactured by TEI Rock Drills from Montrose in Colorado, USA, for whom Skelair are the distributors in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Skelair’s association with TEI began over seven years ago and its drill masts have been used extensively for major projects throughout the UK, with over 35 units now sold.

Skelair says the HEM is TEI’s most popular excavator attachment and TEI has now announced the new-generation HEM550 excavator drill, which is designed to fit on larger 20t excavators.

The HEM550 package incorporates the new TE550 (15.7kW and 4,550Nm torque) rock drill, designed for the larger hollow bar now being used for soil-nailing and anchoring.

TEI is also testing a new TE350 drill (11kW and 2,400Nm torque), launched at the TEI ‘open house’ in Montrose in October.

TEI Rock Drills attachments and accessories are available for purchase or hire in the UK from Skelair in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire.

Skelair is also the authorised UK distributor for the full range of Obermann grout mixers and pumps, designed and built in Germany specifically for the soil-nailing, anchor and micropiling markets.

Geosynthetics you can trust

G

eosynthetics is playing an increasingly important role

in both the construction of new permanent way and the refurbishment and renewal of existing track.

TERRAM are at the forefront of developments in this highly technical field who, by working with Network Rail and listening to their track engineers, have launched a new range of rail products that will provide benefits to the installer and long- term benefits to track life and maintenance.

The new TERRAM PW-NP group provides a parallel range to the established and well-proven PW group of products and will offer a new innovative geosynthetic solution to perform within NR/ SP/TRK/9039 guidelines.

The product spearheading the range is the highly innovative TERRAM PW-NP2. The new product has been created to incorporate the mechanical and hydraulic properties of the two most common products utilised in permanent way, namely thermally and mechanically bonded geotextiles.

It provides the industry with Oct/Nov 10

a robust geotextile that has the integrity to withstand vigorous installation forces thus minimising damage and retaining long term strength and, once installed, having the performance characteristics to withstand the abrasion forces generated by a track in constant use.

Additionally, and equally important, is the ability to minimise the water coming through from the ballast to the formation by deflecting it to the cess drain. This reduces the water at the formation and ballast interface and thus minimises the creation of slurry.
