Fallout: New Vegas’ decimated wasteland looks more colourful than that of the last Fallout game – but just as dangerous
PLAYING ITS CARDS RIGHT
Bethesda is offering Falloutfans a Collector’s Edition of New Vegas, exclusively available in GAME stores nationwide. Bearing a price tag of £69.99, the bundle includes:
‘Lucky 7’ poker chips. Each of these faithfully recreated chips represents a major casino found on the New Vegas strip.
A deck of Fallout: New Vegas- themed playing cards depicting the game’s different factions.
The Making of Fallout: New Vegas DVD including video content and developer interviews.
Hardcover graphic novel entitled All Roadsthat tells the story of the events leading up to New Vegas.
Other in-game DLC extras include special guns, binoculars, armour and health kits. These are available when pre-ordering Fallout:New Vegas from either GAME, Gamestation,
Play.com or Amazon.
New Vegas also retains the series’ renowned customisation options. Gamers can set themselves up as a stealthy sniper, a kung-fu warrior or a Rambo-style machine gunner. These class and combat systems position New Vegas as an RPG shooter similar to its predecessor. There is also an upgraded reputation system that tracks the consequences of players’ actions, which have a knock-on effect on faction loyalties.
GOING HARDCORE But it’s the introduction of a ‘hardcore’ mode that will please dedicated fans of the series. Start a new game on this difficulty and players will have to regularly maintain their hydration levels with less contaminated water. Bullets and items will affect their weight, while being shot at will cause much more damage than usual. With its classic gameplay, established fanbase and star-studded voice acting from Matthew Perry, Wayne Newton and more, Fallout: New Vegas will be one of this year’s biggest shooters when it’s released in October.
Gamers turn detective in Lace Mamba Global’s new crime scene investigation trilogy….
by Billy Langsworthy
PLAYERS STEP into the shoes of a forensic investigator in Casebook Trilogy: Special Edition.
This adventure title gives gamers a chance to experience photo-realistic crime scenes and forensic mini-games set across three separate cases. The trilogy provides players with over 12 hours of gameplay, as well as a mini-episode with a demo mission concerning a missing urn. Kidnapped sees players searching for a missing person, while The Watcher tasks them with working out if a man found dead beneath a window was suicide or murder. The third case, Snake in the Grass, sees players saving Garden, a small town plagued by a killing madman. To solve each one, players have to scan scenes for clues, analyse evidence and fingerprints – covering everything from policework to forensics. They’ll also watch interviews with possible suspects in over two hours of TV-standard drama.
“Each case was originally released as a standalone product and did very well,” says Lace Mamba’s European MD Jason Codd.
“The trilogy will give great value for money to older users who may have only played one episode and now can follow the story from start to finish. “Amazon and
Play.com are showing really good pre-orders so the product could exceed our expectations at retail. “We really think that we are giving a great product for a great price, which will appeal to casual consumers as well as others looking for a bargain.” With hours of mini games, interviews and crime scenes to analyse, Casebook Trilogy looks to give consumers an taste of life as a forensic investigator.
