middle level state honors music project
Continuing the Tradition of Excellence Jeff Gretzinger, Program Director
In preparation for the 2010 WSMA Middle Level State Honors Project, chair Jim Scheuer and chair-elect Doug Arendt led the staff through their summer retreat at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education on July 30.
Following welcomes, introduction of new staff and an overview of the event timeline, coordinators Connie Kramer, Marcia Russell and Bob Ignaszak met with their respective staff to prepare music folders and communications.
“Knowing past participants of the WSMA Honors Band makes this even more of an honor to be selected to be a member for the 2010 performance. The level of effort and commitment increases my respect for all.”
Joanna Busch – Student Pulaski Wisconsin 2010 Middle Level Honors Band
Conductors for 2010 include University of Kentucky’s Scott Wright, Northwestern’s James Kjelland and Rollo Dilworth from Temple University.
“The WSMA Middle Level Honors Project has proven to be a vital component to our Middle School music curriculum. The audition process alone has been a wonderful learning experience for our students. Once a student (and a program) have had a taste of the excellence and quality that the Middle Level Honors Project has to offer they want more.”
Chris Gleason – Sun Prairie Patrick Marsh Middle School Director
The effort and commitment of the teachers and the WSMA staff who work on the Middle Level State Honors Project, along with the dedicated student musicians who auditioned and perform in the concert, make this project truly exceptional for the 320 students selected.
“Students participate because of their passion for music. The experience is life changing. When they arrive, students realize they are not alone in their passion.”
Connie Kramer – Clintonville St Martin Lutheran School - Middle Level Honors Band Coordinator
