Annual Board of Directors Meeting
On June 23-24, WSMA Board President Robert Hanson (Minocqua) convened the annual meeting of the WSMA Board of Directors at the Heidel House in Green Lake. Meeting in the same location and time was the board of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). Steps are being taken to increase communication and collaboration between the two organizations.
During the WSMA meeting, Elaine Baumann, principal of River Falls High School, was elected president-elect for a term begin- ning in December 2010. Other current officers of WSMA include R. Scott Pierce (Pleasant Prairie), past-president, and Lee Zarnott (Mayville), president-elect.
Financial reports presented at the meeting indicated that WSMA ended the 2009-10 fiscal year with a posi- tive cash balance on income/expenditures of just over $2 million. Executive Director Mike George reported that this balanced budget was accomplished primarily through efficiencies and reduction of expenditures in the areas of travel, personnel, supplies and building mainte- nance. The emphasis is on offering high quality services and programs without increasing costs. Seeking new sources of revenue and support continues as a priority. This is consistent with responses to similar challenges faced by school districts throughout the state.
