launchpad update Little Saint Anything Wins Launchpad Competition


The Launchpad state finals competition ended on a high note with Homestead and Nicolet High Schools band Little Saint Anything tak- ing home the coveted Les Paul Award for 2010. With the addition of the wild card online voting procedure through Broadjam, this year 13 bands qualified to perform at the state finals competition held June 12 at Wisconsin Union Theater in Madison. The 13 finalists all received the opportunity to perform at Summerfest in addition to receiving a digital recorder from Yamaha and a Shure microphone. Two Daisy Rock guitars were also given to band members through a random drawing held at the finals.


Through a sponsorship opportunity with Yamaha, three clinics were provided for students with the clinicians then acting as judges for the finals. This unique opportunity allowed students to learn and discuss their music with performing and recording professionals. Clinicians were Chris Poland on guitar, Tom Brechtlein on drums and Hanah Jon Taylor on the art of improvisation.

Launchpad, now in its sixth year, has become one of the fastest growing and exciting new WSMA programs offered to high school students. It allows students to put into practice the lessons learned in your music program and apply in their own way what they have learned. Thank you to music teachers from around Wisconsin for preparing bands for this event as well as to the sponsors. Through these important connections Launchpad will continue as a viable and successful student opportunity.
