“Dreams are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions.”

~ Edgar Cayce

Today, curiosity got the best of me in an ironic sort of way... I used the Internet to

research how the Internet was created in an effort to answer the golden question, “Whose dream was it?” Google produced 3,490,000 results and believe it or not, with all the self- proclaimed experts out there, a consistent answer was difficult to find.

My conclusion? It was really the dream of a team. (Unofficial credit goes to “dream team.”)

While the explosion of the Internet didn’t happen until the 1990s, it was really the synthesis of several dreamers of the 60s that made the Internet a reality and my Google search today possible.

When the Internet was still a dream, WMEA (then called WMEC) was becoming a real- ity. This year, we celebrate WMEA’s 50th anniversary, and like the Internet, it wouldn’t be the way it is today without those who dreamed before us. Still, the cycle contin- ues of reinventing the way we do things to progress with the times and be our own dream team for the future.

Welcome to the September edition of Wisconsin School Musician, themed “Cel- ebrating Our Past, Imagining Our Future.” Also dedicated to the 2010 Wisconsin State Music Conference, this issue celebrates milestones of the past while promoting innovative thinking for the future! Be sure to check out the special conference section, articles related to the history of WMEA and other features and news, like “In the Center” (Did you know it’s also an anniversary for the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, now five years in existence?).

We also celebrate our 2nd edition of WSM

fully digitized at www.WSMmagazine.org. Don’t miss out on all the interactive features and bonus content available exclusively through… you guessed it… the Internet!
