An air conditioning solution provided by Weatherite Building Services (WBS) will help to create the optimum working environment in the new communications room at Birmingham International station.
Station on track to ideal environment
Virgin Trains, which manages the station, runs around 50 trains per day each way on the Birmingham International – London Euston route.
The project was carried out in partnership with MITIE Technical Facilities Management (MTFM), engineering contractor for Virgin Trains. WBS was involved from start to finish in the project which included full design, supply, installation and commissioning of the system. An Hitachi wall-mounted unit was chosen for its compact design, energy efficiency and quiet operation which meant it was ideal for the busy communications room.
WBS has over 37 years’ experience in all aspects of building service including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, commercial kitchen ventilation/extraction, data centre/IT cooling, boiler house refurbishment/replacement and all aspects of M & E services. WBS offers its customers a complete building services solution— from one single source including total project management and full design, installation and commissioning activities.

New Look has taken the lead on sustainability at its new flagship store on London’s Oxford Street and its Marble Arch premises, by installing revolutionary AC Series air curtains from Airbloc.
Green is this season’s colour
The AC Series air curtains from Airbloc were the perfect solution for New Look’s stores. They create a high velocity air wall, which ensures that external climates do not penetrate into the carefully controlled atmospheres of New Look’s shops, reducing the energy consumption of air conditioning and heating systems. AC Series air curtains also offer supreme energy efficiency themselves. Featuring a SmartElec energy saving control, they minimise energy usage to optimise their contribution to sustainability. The significant green benefits of installing AC Series units are matched by their other performance qualities. CE approved, the versatile and
hardwearing system can be installed either vertically or horizontally at doorways and entrances to meet any need.
At New Look’s Oxford Circus store, the main entrance featured overhead High Capacity ACR Series air curtains for additional power. Their outlet was provided by one continuous grille recessed into the ceiling for an unobtrusive, sleek effect in line with the fashion chain’s stylish aspirations.
For the Marble Arch store building, bespoke AC Series units were supplied. A corner entrance, it was specially designed to create an impressive effect for customers. As such, it was essential that the air curtains fitted the design seamlessly. AirBloc provided High Capacity AC Series units coloured in grey and featuring special grilles to match the door fixtures and ceiling perfectly. Email:

New and improved WX commercial wall fan range
Xpelair Ventilation Solutions has launched its WX wall fan range, with a host of new features designed to make installation even quicker and simpler for its customers. Designed for refurbishment and new commercial projects, the WX range now features a larger squared grille that allows better airflow with less resistance and a new straightforward ‘safe lock’ metal telescopic wall liner for solid long lasting installations, which comes as two rigid halves that are fitted from opposite sides of the wall and locked
in place using Xpelair’s unique ladder strip system. The new range also incorporates a new coloured external grille, finished in light grey for a neutral finish.
The WX range is available in four models including the WX6, WX9 and WX12, as well as the WX6T that features an overrun timer designed to be connected to a lighting circuit and can continue to run for up to 20 minutes after a light has been switched off. Waterwise
Technology increases product range
Waterwise Technology has introduced a super size 90 cubic meter per hour model to their range of Cobra Cyclone centrifugal dirt separators which are now all available with the option of a new tailored insulated jacket.
The new Cobra Cyclone is the largest in the Waterwise CSF and STC ranges of sidestream filtration units for closed circuit heating, chilled water systems and cooling towers and has been developed as a result of increased demand from larger buildings and projects. The first of the new models is due to be installed at IBM in Portsmouth.
The insulated jackets have been introduced to maximise the efficiency and sustainability of the Cobra Cyclone filters. Jon Fielder, Managing Director at Waterwise Technology comments: “The units surrounding pipe work has to be insulated once installed to meet efficiency standards and reduce condensation levels. We had a lot of feedback from customers saying it would be great to have a custom made insulation jacket that was easy to put on and remove for scheduled maintenance and so that is exactly what we have designed. It’s so important to meet our customer’s environmental responsibilities and invest in R&D to ensure our products are the most sustainable water treatment options on the market.”
