Fresh feel/ambience at IKEA

Providing a cost effective control measure in the reduction of nuisance dust Zehnder CAS units are working to keep a number of IKEA stores across the UK dust free. Fitted in the showroom and market hall areas of the stores Zehnder CAS units are benefiting the workers, the customers, the merchandise and the company alike. Helping IKEA meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) dust guidance levels and creating a healthier environment for their staff and customers the Zehnder CAS units use the innovative Flimmer® Filtration technology to remove dust particulate from the air. Operating quietly and without the need for frequent filter changes the units offer an effective and efficient solution. With significant

improvements to the air quality since installation staff feedback has been extremely positive.

In addition to the health benefits the units are also helping reduce costs. Less dust means less need to clean which consequently saves money on cleaning bills. What’s more they also ensure merchandise remains clean and visually attractive minimising wastage and product returns.

Mr Slim means patients can be scanned in absolute comfort

Three Mitsubishi Electric Mr Slim heat pump air conditioning systems are being used to deliver a controlled and comfortable environment for both medical staff and patients using a new MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner within a Welsh hospital.

The MRI scanner was built into a dedicated mobile unit by W H Bence Coachworks Ltd at their site in Yate. The company specialises in designing and building vehicles and trailers for the medical, motorsport and emergency services. Once complete, the unit was then transported to its final home at the Ystrad Mynach Hospital which is one of several hospitals within the Aneurin Bevan Health Board.

“Whilst this MRI has now been fitted at the hospital, we also had to ensure that all of the delicate medical equipment was

able to withstand the move to Ystrad Mynach,” explained Oliver Brown of Bence.

Just Air Conditioning Ltd is the Approved Installer of Mitsubishi Electric equipment that installed the three Mr Slim units whilst it was on site at the Bence facility. The company has always specified Mitsubishi Electric and Wayne Raven, who has also designed the air conditioning for the static MRI system in the main hospital, was full of praise for the flexibility that comes with the Mr Slim range. “After installing the three outdoor compressors and positioning the indoor units around all the other equipment, we had to wait until it was transported and in position at the hospital before we could commission and test them,” said Just Air Conditioning’s Wayne Raven. “That’s the beauty of the Mitsubishi kit though, as it is easy to

reconfigure the system and the controls are

straightforward to operate.”

Temperature

control is essential as the complex MRI imaging hardware and its associated sensitive computing

equipment cannot function if subject to high or

Building & Facilities Management – September 2010 fluctuating temperatures.

The MRI unit uses a combination of an RP35-VHA4, and RP70-VHA4 and an RP100-VHA4 from the Mr Slim PUHZ range and these are attached at the rear of the MRI cabin. They serve the three indoor units used throughout to deliver the optimum operating temperature for the MRI equipment and a comfortable working environment to the radiographers on duty at the scanning controls whilst maintaining a comfortable temperature for the patient having an MRI scan. Patients undergo an MRI scan to help with diagnosis of a number of medical conditions and the full body scanner can be quite a daunting prospect for some.

“It always helps patients to relax if the room is welcoming and comfortable,” explains Marilyn Williams from Aneurin Bevan Health Board. “There is also a lot of electrical equipment in such a small area so the air conditioning has the added benefit of ensuring that staff stay cool and collected as they look to reassure patients who are entering the MRI.”

The Mr Slim range is perfect for a wide variety of environmental control situations and comes in large range of flexible configurations with the ability to link to individual or multiple wall, ceiling, ducted or floor-mounted indoor units.
