Samsung’s Seven Splits Support Dublin Hospital

An array of single split systems from Samsung’s CAC (Commercial Air Conditioner) range provide cost effective heating and cooling for year-round comfortable conditions in a new building for the Laboratory Administration Support Unit at a Dublin Hospital. All models in the CAC range are designed for cost effective operation in small commercial applications, and feature Samsung’s S-Inverter controls for maximum efficiency.

The new building at the hospital has four systems with slim one-way cassettes, each delivering 4.1kW cooling (4.7kW heating), two mini four-way cassettes rated at 6kW (9kW) and one mini four-way cassette of 6.5kW (10kW). The systems were installed by Dublin-based Bruce Air Conditioning Ltd, with components sourced through Samsung’s sole stocking distributor in Ireland, Refrigeration Distributors Ltd.

The powerful new line-up of CAC systems from Samsung provides solutions from 2.6kW to 14kW, with a range of cassettes, wall-mounted, ducted and

console-type indoor units to suit any requirement. The systems are designed to cool from 50°C external and to heat from –20°C ambient without additional energy source. At the heart of each system is the S- Inverter, which allows the unit to run up to full capacity quickly but without energy demand ‘spikes’, and once the desired temperature is reached it automatically adjusts to keep the temperature constant with economical use of power. By avoiding inefficient on-off cycles and frequent running at full power, the S-Inverter achieves energy cost savings of up to 50% compared to non-inverter systems. The S-Inverter also operates the compressor at the lowest possible speed, so there’s less motor and fan noise too.

RDL Managing Director, Pat Cummins, says the hospital installation is a showcase for Samsung’s CAC range in Ireland, lending weight to RDL’s recent appointment as sole stocking distributor for Samsung. “We see excellent growth potential for air conditioning in Ireland –

especially with the broad range that Samsung offers, including single and multi- splits and the market-leading DVM Plus III (VRF) series.”

Jonathan Pettitt, Samsung’s National Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, says Samsung and RDL share a vision of system and service excellence. “With RDL guiding the success of projects such as the Dublin hospital, Samsung is set to become a strong brand in this market.” Formed in 1981, RDL is an Ireland-wide distributor of equipment and components to the air conditioning and refrigeration trades and the only compressor rack manufacturer – primarily for retail multiples – in Ireland. It will stock Samsung systems at its Dublin and Cork branches, and serve air conditioning customers in Northern Ireland through representation in Belfast. Shentongroup supplies CHP to Crieff Hydro Hotel

The shentongroup’s innovative Combined Heat & Power (CHP) system, powertherm™ has been installed in one of Scotland’s leading hotels, Crieff Hydro. Known as Scotland’s most comprehensive family and child friendly resort, Crieff Hydro has installed powertherm as part of its environmental policy and to reduce energy costs.

Powertherm is supplying the hotel with 75kw of inexpensive, green, electricity, and catering for the hotel’s hot water supply for its showers, baths, heating, swimming pool, spa baths, laundry and kitchen. In addition, it will compliment the resort’s existing power generator by providing standby power to the hotels, bedrooms and bathrooms. This was an additional benefit to the hotel as it is located in an area that has been prone to powercuts.

“The powertherm CHP unit is an excellent innovation, doing precisely what was promised and performing well”, says Joe Carmouche, Engineering Director at Crieff Hydro. “The assistance and advice we have received from the shentongroup has been first rate and we are delighted with the results and the additional standby power which is enabling us to provide our guests with an even better product”. Unique to the European market,

12 energy solutions

powertherm’s engine technology gives 84.5% package efficiency with thermal recovery, enabling the units to provide an outstanding energy output compared to fuel consumption as well as shrink a company’s carbon footprint. Utilising a low emission natural gas engine, powertherm offers a pre-engineered package design, which reduces up-front engineering, site design and installation costs. The design encompasses all CHP components within an acoustic enclosure, providing improved noise rating (60 dB(A) @ 7 m). “Powertherm will provide us with a relatively short term payback”,

concluded Joe Carmouche. “As we have received a interest free loan through the Carbon Trust, our investment is proving extremely worthwhile.” With the flexibility to support both

inside and outside applications, powertherm’s CHP technology recovers waste heat to provide heating, hot water or even air conditioning. This reduces overall energy consumption and thereby enables commercial and industrial customers to offset gas and electricity consumption. The system’s very low exhaust emissions ensure that powertherm complies with or exceeds UK regulations.
