Doug Grimm Made Chief of Grede, Citation Conglomerate Newly formed Grede II LLC, Novi,
Mich., announced in February it will be headed by former Citation Chief Executive Officer Doug Grimm. The new company results from the combination of Citation Corp., Novi, Mich., and Grede Foundries Inc., Mil- waukee. Grimm will be the conglom- erate’s chairman, president and CEO. Grimm said the new firm, which
employs 2,700, is made up of the best people from the ranks of the two legacy companies. “[Many] employees have kept their
jobs, and we are continuing to hire as the economy comes back,” he said. “[The merger is a] one plus one equals three, a win-win-win.” Prior to his appointment as chief of
Citation in early 2008, Grimm was a vice president at Visteon Corp., where he was responsible for the company’s business and customer relationship with Ford Mo- tor Co. worldwide. Before joining Visteon,

Grimm worked for Metaldyne and Dana Corp. in various executive roles. A 24-year veteran of the automotive
industry, Grimm began his career in 1984 with Chrysler Corp., where he spent 10 years in management. Grimm
earned a masters degree in business administration from the Univ. of Detroit and a bachelors in economics from Hiram College in Ohio. He also com- pleted the Univ. of Michigan Executive Management Program.

began his career in manufacturing in 1973 with International Harvester, Warrenville, Ill., which became Navi- star in 1982. In 1995, Mitchell was named vice president of manufacturing and strategic initiatives, the position he held until his retirement in 2006. A member of the American Foundry Society (AFS) since 1973, Mitchell served in the Director’s Class of 1998. He was awarded the Keating Founders’ Freedom Award in 1993.
David John Fick, Tacoma, Wash., died
Dec. 25, 2009. He was 65. Fick worked at Fick Foundry, Tacoma, Wash., for more than 23 years, then founded Fick & Associates, a sales organization rep- resenting metalcasting facilities. He worked for the company until his death.
Paul Gouwens, Pros-
pect Heights, Ill., died Jan. 23. He was 87.
Paul Gouwens
Gouwens spent more than 65 years in the metalcasting industry. Starting as a co-op student working at Fahralloy Co., he went on to become chief met- allurgist. He then became manager of metalcasting and steelmaking research at the IIT Research Institute, Chicago. In 1965, Gouwens was appointed vice president of technology for AFS, where he coordinated the society’s technical committees and was instrumental in the development of conferences designed to meet special industry needs. Dur- ing his last year with AFS, he served as managing director of the Training and Research Institute (now the Cast Metals Institute). In 1972, Gouwens formed Cast Metals International. The group imported French electromagnetic pump technology, and after distribut- ing the product, Gouwens bought the rights to the pumps and co-founded CMI Novacast Inc., Des Plaines, Ill., with his son Lee. He remained chief executive officer of the company until his retirement in 2007.
