STX Europe wins market share with PSV contracts
STX Europe has made its mark in the global platform supply vessel (PSV) market with recent orders for four newbuilds at its Norwegian yards for various North Sea-based shipowners, including one powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

and oil recovery operations in connection with maritime accidents. Te vessel’s features include oil recovery in accordance with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the latest NOFO 2009 guidelines, emergency towing winch arrangement and bollard pull of 65tonnes and rescue of 300 persons in accordance with Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD) guidelines. The vessel’s hull is currently under
construction at STX Europe in Romania and will be outfitted at one of STX Europe’s Norwegian yards on the north-west coast. Te PSVs expected delivery date is 4th Quarter of 2011. Simon Møkster Shipping ordered another
PSV from STX Europe in May 2010. Tis vessel is of PSV 09L CD design and is 93.5m loa, designed for winterised operations with a de-icing system, as well as for rescue and oil recovery operations. Like the contract before it this vessel will be fitted to tackle oil recovery in accordance with DNV and latest NOFO guidelines. Tis vessel will feature dynamic positioning 2 (Dynpos-Autr) and like the 87.9m loa vessel will have emergency towing arrangements and be fitted for the rescue of 300 persons. Both vessels are designed with
environmentally friendly operations in mind, with a particular focus on low fuel consumption, and in accordance with Clean Design requirements. Catalytic reactor exhaust system will be installed for reduced

air emissions. The shipyard and designer claim that with the highly optimised hull form and fore ship together with the specified propulsion configuration the vessels will have particularly good seakeeping abilities, a fuel-efficient transit mode and good station keeping performance. Te 93.5m vessel’s hull will be built at STX
Europe in Romania and outfitted at STX Europe’s yard in Søviknes. STX Europe has also recently won
contracts to build two PSVs for Rem Offshore. Te vessels will be built according to STX Europe PSV 06 design and are scheduled to be delivered in 4th Quarter 2011 and 1st Quarter 2012 respectively. Te total contract value for the vessels is approximately NOK750 million. Tese PSVs will be built to Ice-C class and feature dynamic positioning 2 (Dynpos-Autr). Te PSV hulls will be built at STX Europe, Tulcea in Romania and outfitted at STX Europe, Langsten in Norway. Te most recent contract for a PSV built
at STX Europe (at the time of writing) is for an LNG-powered PSV for Solstad Shipping. Te vessel is of STX Europe PSV 12 LNG design and is scheduled to be delivered in the 4th Quarter of 2011. Te value of the contract is approximately NOK450 million (US$119.8 million). Te vessel is designed with focus on low fuel consumption, and precautions in accordance with DNV’s Clean Design requirements are incorporated into the design.
