Commercial shipbuilding has always been a part of ship- yard’s activity. Since early 1990-s this sphere started developing faster and in- cluded manufacture of ves- sels for foreign customers. A range of trawlers for Damen Shipyards built for several years serves a good example of the commercial shipbuilding development. For the Russian customers a series of vessels of pr.16900 was built. These dry cargo ships are now operated in the White, Barents, Black and Azov seas. Besides manufacture the Shipyard has mastered production of fishing boats – freezing trawlers of pr.50010. Two trawlers – Yagry and Arkhan- gelsk – were passed to the customer and demonstrated high efficiency in opera- tion. Vessels showed good sea-going qualities, high productivity and economy, and according to fishermen’s estimates, proved to be the best in their class in Russia. In the period between 2003 and 2006 there were manu- factured 5 designing sets of fish-breeding plants for Norwegian customers.
