Gazprom selects FMC for Sakhalin subsea work


Gazprom has inked a significant deal with FMC Technologies in Norway to provide subsea hardware for a subsea-to-beach project off Sakhalin Island, Russia. Tis contract is valued at US$190million and deliveries are expected in the second quarter of 2011.

MC Technologies Inc has been selected by Gazprom Dobycha Shelf to manufacture and supply subsea


production hardware for the shallow-water Kirinskoye development, offshore Sakhalin on Russia’s eastern coast. Kirinskoye development involves a gas


and condensate field development in water depths of 90m (300ſt), tying the field back to shore from within the Kirinsky block in the Sakhalin III area, which is located 17miles (29km) offshore Sakhalin Island. Te equipment supplied for the project


includes production trees, a single manifold, wellheads, multiphase meters, choke and control modules. FMC’s production plants in Dunfermline, Scotland and Kongsberg, Norway, will both be involved in the project. Te main component of the tree-mounted


control system is the subsea control module (SCM). The SCM contains electronics, instrumentation, and hydraulics for safe and efficient operation of subsea tree valves, chokes and downhole valves. Other tree-mounted equipment includes various sensors, electrical and hydraulic connectors. FMC’s standard SCMs are available


in various sizes and functionalities. The MK II is capable of controlling up to 24 valve functions, the MK III is capable of controlling up to 46 functions, and the MK IV is available for smaller applications for controlling up to six functions. Mk II and Mk III SCMs are equipped with


redundant hydraulic and electric supplies and electronics. All common standard industry interfaces are supported. The electronics features backwards compatibility and higher communication speeds over longer distances while offering full redundancy and open interface standards such as ethernet, internet, TCP/IP, as well as fiber-optic communications up to 1Gbps.

(MPM) was named a recipient of the 2010 ‘Spotlight on New Technology Award’ by the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in May 2010. Te award, which recognises innovative technologies that significantly impact offshore exploration and production, was given to FMC Technologies for its innovative, patent-pending self configuring multiphase meter. Te meter has been rated at 15,000psi


and temperatures of up to 250°C (480°F). It has also been designed for use at water depths of 11,500ft (3500m), and works in multiphase and wetgas applications. Trough the use of tomography imaging technology, the meter significantly improves the measurement accuracy and range of multiphase production flow. Seven patented technologies make the


meter significantly more accurate and robust than existing products. Te meter includes a self-calibrating feature that allows it to detect and measure water

salinity in combination with other liquids in a well, resulting in a higher degree of measuring accuracy that saves operators time and enhances production knowledge. More than 1000 subsea wells are


controlled using FMC’s tree-mounted control systems with an uptime rate of 99–100% for most systems. The technology today controls wells at distances up to 120km, and in water depths of 3000m/10,000ft with 15k reservoir pressure rating. Vice-president of Global Subsea
