Show Highlights Technical Excellence
A piece or collection that boasts an impressive technical innovation or rarely used technique, either of making jewellery or working with gems, resulting in a thought-provoking jewel.
WINNERS
Jessica Jewellery Design, Stand B14 The Contemporary Acrylic collections Jessica’s combination of images and surface effects has not been seen in acrylic jewellery before. She uses her own photography, which is printed onto each piece, and then uses a combination of matt and shiny surface finishes to create a mirror-like double image, giving the viewer a very intriguing glimmer of the images.
The Branch, Stand B41 Ring from their AW10 range The production of this jewellery requires much work and expertise, as the material being used makes the process difficult. It is not possible to solder any metals when setting to the wood, which means constantly devising different methods of bringing wood and metal together seamlessly.
HIGHLY COMMENDED
Decï, Stand C15 Roma Emerald Ring A single strand of 18ct yellow gold fine wire is carefully, yet coarsely, spun around a bright emerald stone, caressing it protectively. The emerald is carved in a delicate floral design, revealing inclusions/gardens trapped in the stone during its formation. The carving and beauty of the green stone is further emphasised by the yellow background of roughly-wound gold wire.
