Home to over 1 billion people, India can be described as many things; colourful, vibrant, energetic – it is a bustling country with a rich diverse culture.


India is estimated to be home to a third of theWorld’s poor. Since the 1950’s the Indian government and non governmental organisations have implemented several programmes to alleviate poverty. These measures have helped eliminate famines, cut absolute poverty levels by more than half and reduced illiteracy and malnutrition. However there are still 456 million people living under the poverty line in India today and in Mumbai alone, 55% of the overall population live in slums.


USIT provide projects that aimto tackle a range of issues affecting India today.
