Jamie Carter began her career in acquisitions at Arcadia Pub- lishing, where she helped to grow the company’s list from a handful of titles to several hundred over three years. Beginning in 1999, she worked as an analyst for a commercial web design company, documenting website needs and information flow. For 6+ years before joining Baker & Taylor (B&T), Jamie served


as manufacturing buyer at Heinemann, now a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt com- pany. Today, Jamie is operations manager for Publisher Alley, an online tool for analysis of book sales through B&T.

She then puts it into action for cost and time effective results. With thirty years experience in marketing and media, she focuses on promotion and distribution for the niche markets at the national, region-


al, and local levels. She believes strongly that integrating your marketing effort with excellent distribution and strong promotion generates greater success and increased sales. Her work focuses on non-fiction and includes health, parenting, children’s, Christian, and business titles.

Before launching the presses almost 25 years ago, Checole was a professor of Sociology and political economy at Rutgers University and at El Colegio de Mexico, in Mexico City.
