Ubuntu Hair Studio Helps With Oil Spill Efforts
M
ost people are not aware that get- ting a haircut can actually help
preserve the environment. Ubuntu Hair Studio has been donating hair clippings to Matter of Trust, an organization dedi- cated to collecting human hair and pet fur to help combat oil spills, since they opened for business.
One pound of hair can absorb one quart of oil in one minute and can be reused 100 times. Matter of Trust has been making a difference by collect- ing donated hair and pet fur clippings off salon fl oors for the past two years. he Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Series contin- ues from 7:30 to 9 p.m., June 3, in downtown Encinitas,
at the Pacifi c Station Project. Free raffl e tickets will be given to movie-goers who ride bikes, skateboard, blade, walk, charge an electric car or use public transportation. This month’s fi lm is Tapped, which examines the role of
the bottled water industry and its effects on health, climate change, pollution and reliance on oil. The documentary trails the path of the bottled water industry and the unintended consequences of privatiz- ing water, highlighting specifi c lives that are affected by the industry. The free event will feature updates from DEMA, the Encinitas environmental commission.

Beach Community Acupuncture Celebrates with Open House
affordable acupuncture in Ocean Beach. To celebrate, they are hosting an open house at the clinic from 5 to 7 p.m., June 4. Owner Nicole Murray is proud of the service that Beach Community Acupuncture has provided to the people of Ocean Beach. She explains, “It’s amazing that in less than a year, we are able to provide more than 400 treat- ments a month in our neighborhood. We are thankful to our community and fortunate to have the opportunity to help people, some with serious health concerns.” The fees for treatment are always the same: $30 for the fi rst visit and $20 thereafter. Murray has high hopes for the open house celebration. She says, “People are still surprised and excited to fi nd out about Beach Community Acupunc- ture. We hope to see a lot of new faces at the open house.”
