LEAHY
with Cecilia, as they completed tours of duty in Morocco, Washington DC, Hawaii, California, South Carolina and Virginia. He retired from the Navy in 1967 while living in Virginia Beach.
In 1971, Thomas Leahy returned to government service in Washington, DC, settling in Springfield, Virginia with his family. He would see his children complete their educations, begin careers, marry, and start their own families. He never stopped learning himself, as he earned an MBA from Old Dominion University in 1975, at the age of 50. He retired from the federal government in 1985 and moved back to Virginia Beach in 1999.
He lost his best friend and beloved wife of 55 years when Cecilia passed away in 2004. He lived the next six years in the loving company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Thomas Leahy did not have a lot of interests outside of his dedication to country and family. However, he was an accomplished Bridge player and played in competitions (with Cecilia, of course). He also enjoyed exercising his cryptography skills with crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and other brain- teasers. Well into his eighties, he was still working the daily crossword puzzle – in ink.
He is survived by four children,Cecilia Leahy Klein, Thomas M. Leahy III, Michael P. Leahy and Christine Leahy Taylor; six grandchildren, Federico and Christian Klein, Jennifer and Thomas Leahy, and Christine and Michael Taylor; and two great- grandchildren, Kayla and Nathan.
