FREDERICK FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
Never one to rest on historic laurels, downtown Frederick’s newest attraction is Carroll Creek Park, a handsomely-designed, 1.4-mile commercial “river walk-like” park with shops, restaurants, professional offices and The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center. Carroll Creek Park is located in the heart of the historic district and is the site of many year-round special events including the “Frederick Festival of the Arts,” to be held next weekend on June 5-6. The perennial favorite is sponsored by the Frederick Arts Council, and last year drew 20,000 attendees. The 2010 event will feature 115 juried artists from across the nation who specialize in clay, wood, drawing, painting, graphics, photography, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media and metal, and will display and sell their work. The festival will include two entertainment stages featuring big band, country, progressive folk-rock, blues, rock and roll, roots, bluegrass and Irish music. Additionally, it offers artist demonstrations, children’s activities, interactive theatrical performances by the Maryland Shakespeare Festival, canoe and paddle boat rentals on Carroll Creek, as well as food vendors and a beer and wine garden. Admission is free.

rural settings as well as in historic downtown Frederick, Md. Attendees can enjoy winery tours, tastings of award-winning vintages, seasonal entertainment and spectacular scenery.
THE FREDERICK WINE TRAIL
Just a short drive from the historic district,
Frederick County’s scenic agricultural landscapes, enchanted Catoctin Mountains and state and national parks lure several million visitors each year. Adding to the county’s natural attractions are its six family- owned wineries which collectively produce over half of all Maryland wines. Frederick County’s rocky soils and rolling hills provide the perfect conditions to grow some of the country’s finest wine grapes. Superb fruit combined with decades of wine-making experience have yielded many award- winning releases at each of the wineries. The “Frederick Wine Trail,” a collaborative
effort of the local vintners, provides Maryland’s first official winery tour. Geographically compact enough to enjoy in a day, each winery offers a unique experience with charming tasting rooms staffed by educated personnel, winery tours and seasonal musical events and festivals that draw thousands of attendees from the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore, Md., metro area. Could there be anything more delightful than whiling away the day enjoying the panoramic view of an expansive vineyard while sampling award- winning wine? We think not. Cheers.
