A 31 year resident of Severna Park, MD, died on May 25, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, after a four month illness.
He was born on December 2, 1938 in Washington, DC, where he was raised, lived inNewCarrollton,MDprior to moving to Severna Park, and graduated from U.S.A.F.Technical Schools.
Mr. Collins was a dedicated lifelong patriot, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960.He retired from Time Magazine in 1993 as Manager of Communications.
He was preceded in death by his brother, EdwardWesley Collins and sister, Carmen Marie Reid.

A resident of Falls Church, VA since 1957, passed away at his home on Monday, May 24, 2010. He was 91. Originally from Oklahoma, he played football for the University of Alabama where he met his wife of 62 years, the late Margaret E. Brown. Following graduation, Col. Brown began a 20 year career as an infantry officer in the U.S Army, serving in a variety of command and staff positions around the globe including the Pacific during WWII, followed by Trieste, Italy, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Korea, and the Pentagon. Col. Brown received a Master of Arts degree from GeorgeWashington University and subsequent to his Army career served in management positions at the FCC and IRS in Washington, DC. In retirement, he was able to indulge one of his passions by teaching tennis for the Falls Church Recreation Department. He is survived by his sons, Robert M. Brown, Jr. of McLean, VA and William C. Brown of Falls Church, and granddaughter Amy Compton Brown. Funeral services will be held at the Ft. Myer Chapel at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010. Col. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 after a prolonged battle with non- hodgkins lymphoma. Betty was born in 1928 in Alexandria, VA, where she and her high school sweetheart, Robert Higgins, raised a son, Andy Higgins, and daughter, Bonnie Bailey. Betty was a graduate of GW High School and Peace College. She dedicated her life to her family, who adored her. She was a rock of strength with a playful spirit, honest and intelligent, and beautiful inside and out with her luminescent blue eyes. Betty is survived by her husband and daughter; nieces, Katherine Wheatley, Caroline Wheatley, Susan Wheatley Rowell, and Amy Vega; grandniece Kirsten Rowell; sister, Rober- ta Hufty; and dear cousin, Scott Humphrey.

Died on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at his home in Great Falls, Virginia. Born August 20, 1938 in New York City to Robert J. and Phyllis Browne Calvin, he grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey and graduated from Colgate University with a degree in mathematics. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and went to flight training at NAS Pensacola. Following his time spent as a Naval Aviator, he enjoyed a 25 year career with the Lockheed Corporation. Throughout his retirement, Bob applied his uniquely thorough, firm and wonderfully human touch to those lucky to have met him at H&R Block in Vienna Virginia. He pursued a lifelong passion for blue-water sailing, exploring the Chesapeake, the Caribbean and the waters of the U.S. East Coast on his sloop "Graduate", culminating in a transatlantic crossing in 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ellen Wilson Calvin; son, Bruce and his wife, Nancy; daughter, Missy Callanan and her husband, Pete; and stepchildren, Whitney Wilson, Bradford Wilson and his wife, Eileen and Geoffrey Wilson and his fiancée, Sue Ellen Wells. He is also survived by five grandchildren. Mr. Calvin's first wife, Peggy Draper Calvin died in 1985.

Of Kettering, Ohio, died on May 22, 2010. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Chica- go, IL, son of schoolteachers. He grew up in industrialized northwestern Indiana and attended DePauw University. While at DePauw, he studied at St. Andrews in Scotland for his junior year. Returning home and graduating, he married Nancy (Neely) in New Albany, Indiana. The couple raised four children James Aaron, Diana Lennon, Stephanie and Jennifer Konetzny. In his career, he worked mostly as a contracting officer for NIH in Bethesda, Maryland and as an Executive for two private companies involved in clinical trials in Baltimore. While working for NIH he was chosen for a sabbatical program at Colorado State University. In his govern- ment career, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. He retired from the government and private industry, moving to Kettering, Ohio to become a writer. In retirement, he wrote three diverse books and several articles. Addi- tionally, he became a speaker/moderator for the Ohio Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, traveling extensively throughout Ohio delivering presentations on his books. Also was a speaker/moderator for the University of Dayton OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute. Jim loved being a part of the Kettering and Dayton communities, which he thought had many things to offer culturally. He thought music, the arts and sciences could help facilitate world peace. He is survived by wife and children, his grandchildren, Matthew, Austin and Cameron Cash, Mackenzie and Savannah Lennon, Blake and Olivia Konetzny. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Gig- nilliat of Chicago, IL; several nieces and nephews. Passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010. She was surrounded by family and loved ones at the home of her youngest daughter in Annandale, Virginia. Born on February 10, 1921, the only child of Alyce Colbert Quander (nee Lawson) and Alphonso Colbert, in Wash- ington, DC. Vera was a graduate of Dunbar High School and studied library science at Howard University. Her first marriage, to Madi- son Garrison, ended in divorce. She made a home with her second husband, William Gordon McLean, in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands until their retirement in Washington, DC and his death in 1999. Vera was a lifelong lover of God, people, dogs, books and jazz. Before retiring she held a range of responsible positions including posts with the Virgin Island Legislature and Department of Tourism. She volunteered for various causes including DC Children's Hospital National Center. Vera is survived by her companion, Wallace Conway; her son, Eric Garrison; her daughters, Gail Garrison, Mora McLean and Elys McLean Coker; and grandchildren, Kyle Coker, Atinuke Lardner and Kora Coker.
