KIDS IN DISTRESS
In an effort to bring some joy into troubled lives, The Elevator took a group of children whose lives had been marred by tragedy to Florida for a spot of cartoon fun
For four years, The Elevator has reported on charities and philanthropic projects from around the world, always closely eyeing opportunities to be part of making the world a better place. In January 2010 it was finally time to put pen to paper, turn words into action and to be a part of those who bring relief and happiness. Our team picked an organization that was active in one of the communities The Elevator operates in and as a first project we decided to do something for children. The choice was made and we contacted “Kids in Distress” in South Florida to offer something that would make a difference to the lives of the children who have lived with too much hardship and enjoyed too little laughter in their all too young lives. Preparations were made and a few weeks later, on February 13th 2010, The Elevator sponsored a trip for fifty children along with their carers to go to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.
Some of the kids had never even traveled as far as the next city so not only did we have an opportunity to expand their horizons but also to give them what is undoubtable the best experience a child can have – to go to Disneyworld, the happiest place on earth.
A few weeks later we were rewarded with big, hand-painted “artwork” from the children, depicting the things they had seen and expressing their joy. Almost all of the kids wrote us thank you notes; some entertaining ones will follow hereafter. Do please note that spelling and the choice of words is exactly reproduced as written by the children! Brian, age 7 said “ I like Space Mountain. best. I liked Thunder Mountain too. They gave me a nice bag of candy. I had fun with my friends!” 11 year old Joseph said, “My favorite part was when I went on my first rollercoaster… when it went slow I was not scared, when it went in the dark I was like oh junk and when it went fast I was

about to pee in pants.”
Jeremiah, 8, wrote to us, “ When I was at Disney I had Fun in the people and when we went to eat, I had so Fun, we had Fun with my friends at Disney.”
The Elevator’s Disney trip was a total success and we got more than we hoped for. A day of laughter and joy was given to those who need it the
