Roofing choice for schools
Ash & Lacy Building Systems’ new ‘Building for
Education Solutions’ brochure highlights the various systems it offers, including standing seam, green roofs, rainscreen, fabrication services and refurbishment systems. The company has completed a number of schools, among them seven Midlothian Schools for which it provided over 32,000 sqm Ashzip standing seam roofing, Ashfab fabrications and Ashfix fasteners.

Using carpet tiles to divide areas
Desso Flux carpet tiles were specified and installed by Sitec Interiors at Baverstock School in Birmingham. The carpet tiles in orange, dark blue, green and bright blue were laid in a quarter-turn arrangement and used to create natural divisions between areas whilst glazed partitioning provided physical segmentation as well as letting as much light into the area as possible.

Cubicles designed for children
Designed and manufactured by Washroom Washroom, the Bambino cubicle system provides a viable alternative to children of junior school age who may not feel comfortable using washroom facilities designed for adults. Complementing the Frutti infants’ cubicle, the Bambino is a full sized cubicle with reduced height doors to enable a degree of adult supervision when necessary.

Safer radiator heating
The new Sovereign Low Surface Temperature radiator, designed and manufactured by Autron, features rounded edges and finger proof grills along with anti microbial surface treatments on all external surfaces. The heat emitter is a copper aluminium finned element which responds quickly to changing ambient conditions. The radiator casings are supplied ready assembled, and the removable grills make the unit easy to clean thoroughly.

Safety around the pool
Safety around the pool complex of Magnolia Independent School, near Houston in Texas, has been increased with the installation of Heronrib matting from Plastic Extruders. Manufactured in a bespoke magnolia colour, Heronrib’s open grid vinyl construction with raised profile underbars efficiently drains water away leaving the embossed surface relatively dry and highly slip resistant. Anti-bacterial and anti-fungal additives ensure it is hygienic for bare feet.

Promoting hand hygiene in schools
Deb has produced a suite of new educational posters to highlight the importance of adopting good hand hygiene practices in schools and nurseries. Washing hands can be interesting and more importantly can be integrated into school day activities. The posters are available to download free from Deb’s website (www.debgroup.com) and can be printed for use around schools and nurseries.

Optimising natural resources

Carpet tile with built-in protection
Formwork is the latest carpet tile from Milliken Contract. Featuring hardwearing 37% recycled content solution dyed nylon and an 85% recycled content cushion backing, it is available in a palette of classic colours with a tweed detail to add textural definition. The tufted level loop pile also features Milliken anti-microbial built-in protection to promote a healthier indoor environment.
