flooring for indoor sport
Club use for cricket and badminton
I
NDOOR cricket is a high priority at both Abingdon School and the Abingdon Preparatory School (Josca’s), in
Oxfordshire. When choosing a sports floor for their sports halls, performance characteristics had to be married with safety considerations for used by children and young adults.
The floor had to comply with the ECB standards, whilst also being suitable for various other sports including badminton, volleyball and basketball. Taraflex Sport Performance Plus from
Gerflor was specified for each scheme. Its high, point elastic shock absorbent properties means there is no requirement for additional shock pads.
Protecting your multi- purpose floor
A
N ETERNAL problem for schools is how to protect their multi-purpose floors from damage whenever they’re
used for non-sporting applications. A reusable floor covering has been designed to protect the floor while it’s being used for exams, functions, performances or simply storage. Florprotec V has a slip resistant surface and is also reversible. A high strength material, it reduces the risk of damage to sports floors from high heels,
tables and chair legs. It can also provide temporary protection when building work and refurbishment is being carried out. The floor covering is available in grey
and green in 20 and 40m rolls, both 1.5m wide. Flexibility and lightweight, it can easily be rolled up and kept in a storage box until required.

Beech floor for dance and drama
A
The performance benefits of the
floors for indoor cricket use, have seen local cricket clubs use the sports halls at both locations for ‘winter nets’. The new sports hall at the Abingdon School has now been selected as the Oxfordshire Badminton Performance Centre. To provide an optimum grip/slide
compromise and a friction, burn-free, surface, the Taraflex floor uses the Protecsol surface treatment. This removes the need to polish and ensures that the maintenance regime is minimised.

S PART OF a £5m re-development, St Marylebone School for Girls in Central London has installed a new 400 sqm
multi-purpose sports hall and two connecting 100 sqm dance/drama Studios. The sports hall and dance/drama studios are part of a new underground facility, requiring detailed, specialist finishes and accessories. Gumuchdjian Architects specified Junckers’ pre- finished 22mm Beech SylvaSport Premium, nailed to Junckers UnoBat 62+ Undercarriage System. In the main sports hall, line marking was carried out using Isoline line marking paint and an extra coat of high performance
Sports Seal was applied to ensure hard wearing durability.
Meeting the need for speed
In researching sports performance needs, Junckers has created four new undercarriage systems that achieve the right conditions to efficiently absorb shock but still exhibit high ball response and good levels of friction that are essential for high speed activity.
