Blown highlights? If you're suffering from blown highlights on the back of yourmodel, you can try a few things. Start by making sure the skin isn't too oily, as this has a habit of reflecting light. If you're happy with the skin, then look at the positioning of your key light and the type of shaper /modifier you're using. Start by changing the direction of the light or even changing to a less specular reflector. Also, it's worth considering the separation between yourmodel and the background as bleed from the background lighting can often occur. If this is the case, then youmay want to considermoving your model further away from the background, or, reduce the power of the background lighting.
Take Two: Using the same model, similar pose, but different background can really change the entire feel of the image and almost make it look like two different shoots. Simple changes make a big impact! A quick change to a black background paper has changed the entire lighting set-up. So what's so different you may be thinking? As the model has dark skin, it would be easy to loose her shape against the dark background, so it's time to think about how you're going to create the separation needed to lift her from the background and define the shape and tone.
Hough-To: Quickly change the high performance reflectors for a couple of Grid Reflectors and honeycomb grids, and then turn them around to light the side of the model. The key light remains pretty much the same. The second change is to provide enough fill on the models face, without making it too bright and I achieved this by placing two large polyboards on each side of the camera and white card immediately under the camera to bounce enough light back onto the face and the body, plus it created a catchlight in the eyes of the model. Don't worry if you don't have polyboards! Try using a white or silver reflector out of frame to bounce the light as it will do a similar job.
