this issue a bit of a guy- free zone – well at least in terms of our featured photographers. So we’re lowish on testosterone and high

on all things female. Charlotte Whitton, a famous Canadian feminist coined the statement
that
consistently echoes around the commercial world, with its so-called ‘glass-ceiling’ – that invisible barrier that allegedly impedes the advancement of women in their careers. An irritated Charlotte said: “Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good.” And that is a view echoed by one of our featured photographers – Lara Jade. “People say sexism and ageism are dead. It’s a lie.” she states. Don’t miss our ‘Young, gifted and annoyed’
article all about Lara (20) starting on page 10. But SarahPhotogirl (P4) has simply pushed and bullied her way to success with her rock band shoots – winning the clear admiration of rock hell-raiser Rick Wakeman along the way. And coincidentally,
I read somewhere
recently that apparently the rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself. Well SarahPhotogirl gives the lie to that one. She’s quite happy in a quiet week just to ‘experiment’ by taking pictures of herself – and uploading them to her website. In our Body of Lies article (P18) Shirlaine Forrest tackles the potential paradox of eating disorders, her choice of shooting bone-thin fashion models and the increasingly contentious issue of retouching images of these so-called role models. And check out news of our just released new Gemini 500C monolight. It’s cool, black – and we have to say - reasonablymanly in its appearance.
