Litebook:Why photography?
India Hobson: I studied art at school and earned a distinction on a foundation course. This led me to approach photography as a natural and progressive process of image- making. I love the freedom this medium allows and the direct representation of the world we live in, as opposed to that of drawing and painting. I have always had a love affair with fashion images, and by extension, portraiture and fine art.
LB:Which photo-disciplines really
engage you?
IH: I am focused commercially on fashion, beauty and portraiture and my personal work veers more towards the fine art genre. The term ‘fashion’ can sometimes appear vacuous and I prefer to view it as a great way to play. I love that I can be in a field with a half-naked model, a stylist and an armful of random objects, and still call it work. Each day is different. You never quite know how your images are going to turn out – and that is all part of the fun.
LB: Tell us about your studies.
IH: I am in my final year of a B.A. Hons course in photography at the Manchester School of Art (part of the MMU – Manchester Metropolitan University).
