John Franklin Armstrong, Jr., age 72, of Falls Church, VA died of natural causes onWednes- day, April 7, 2010 at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. Jack was a periodontist in Falls Church for the past 40 years. He received his undergraduate B.S. degree at Randolph- Macon College and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia in 1959. Jack completed his periodontal training at the University of Kentucky. He served in the U. S. Navy for two years on active duty in Florida, and over 20 years in the Navy Reserve. Jack is survived by his son John III, a daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; a sister; a brother; numerous relatives and many devoted friends. The family will receive friends at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME OF ARLING- TON, 4510 Wilson Blvd., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 11. Interment will be on Monday for the immediate family. GWENDOLYN M. BAPTIST (Age 90)

Of Franklin, MA; formerly of Mt. Rainier, MD and Washington, DC, succumbed to complications of Alzheimer's disease on December 14, 2009. She is survived by her nieces Sharlene Harris of Medway, MA, Barbara Millar and Darlene Jones of CA, Dolores West of AZ and nephew Dennis Miller of AR.

As a charger member of the Central Intel- ligence Agency, Ms. Baptist joined the For- eign Broadcast Information Services (FBIS) in 1943 as a transcriber and monitor of foreign broadcasts from Berlin and other radios. In 1948 she transferred to the analy- sis unit of FBIS, working in the new field of communist media analysis. Through the years her concentration as an analyst and branch chief was in the area of Soviet foreign policy, East-West relations and arms control measures. Ms. Baptist distin- guished herself by directing the compre- hensive analysis of communist treatment of the VietnamWar from the initiation of the US airstrikes against North Vietnam in 1965 through the signing of the peace agreement in 1973. Her work resulted in promotion from branch chief to Group Deputy Chief. In 1976, she was awarded the position of Chief, Analysis Group by then Director of Central Intelligence George H.W. Bush. Ms. Baptist retired from the Agency in 1980.

Mr. Duvall was born in Washington, D.C. on May 28, 1932 to Alma Knox Duvall and Albert Malcolm Duvall, both long time Washington, D.C. residents. He was a brother to the late Donald Knox Duvall. A native Washingtonian, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Mr. Kissal served in the US Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in Block Island, Rhode Island. He was a former Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Officer from 1945 to 1957 and was a member of the Police Pistol Team. From 1957 to 1969, he was in the Uniform Division, White House Police, US Secret Service, and was the captain of the White House Pistol Team. He served under Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. Mr. Kissal was also an ardent golfer. Survivors include his wife, Katherine A. Kissal; five children, Andreas V. Kissal, Gary L. Kissal and wife, Jerilyn, Joanne Kissal, Bruce M. Kissal and wife, Carol, and Maria J.K. Everett and husband, Joel; six grand- children and six great-grandchildren. On Wednesday, March 17, 2010 "Curly" died at his residence with his family in Leesburg, VA. Curly was born August 30, 1942 in Old Hickory, TN. Later he moved to Louisville, KY where Curly grew up. He entered the U.S. Air Force in June of 1962. He retired from the Air Force in 1983. Curly continued working as a defense contractor until September of 2009. For 47 years he proudly served with dedication and expertise in every War our country has been involved. It is with sadness that we share the news of the death of our loved one. George E. Johnson was born on January 31, 1940 in Boston, MA and later settled in Westwood, MA where he graduated from Westwood High School. He continued his education at Babson College then UC, Berkeley for his PhD in Economics. He quickly settled into a professorship at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he taught for over 40 years until retirement in 2008. Teaching and research brought him to Princeton, Nairobi, London, Tokyo, and Prague. He enjoyed two earlier stints in Washington in the 1970's before his retirement here, one in a Directorship at the Department of Labor, and the second on President Carter’s Council of Economic Advisors. His life ended on March 30, 2010 in Washington, DC after a wonderful reunion with family just the week before. George will be missed by many, including his wife, Gloria Johnson; his brother, Phil Johnson; his sons, Eric Johnson and Alex Johnson from his first marriage to Sara Edwards; his step- daughter, Genevieve Fu; his son from his sec- ond marriage, Philip Johnson, his five grand- children and parents-in-law, Morris and Euge- nia Diener.A memorial service in his honor will he held at the University of Michigan Foster Library on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley (734) 662- 5585.

Died on March 3, 2010 at Shady Grove Adven- tist Hospital. She had been a Montgomery County resident and a volunteer at Shady Grove Adventist for more than twenty years. Mrs. Lasser was born Lois Anne Elgin on August 12, 1927, the daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth B. Elgin. She graduated fromWestern High School in Washington, D.C., and later studied at the Corcoran School of Art. She and her husband, Daniel J. Lasser, married on April 24, 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Lasser spent two years in Japan, where he was stationed with the Air Force, and then settled in California for fourteen years before moving to settle permanently in Rockville, Maryland. Mrs. Lass- er was a prolific artist who explored not only painting and drawing but also sculpture. She had a lengthy relationship with Montgomery College’s art department, where she did much of her work. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Daniel J. Lasser.
