Washing-
ton: The per- fect bar seems as much a myth as the perfect man. Where can I go for a Saturday birth- day celebration in D.C. with 15-20 friends in a place swankier than a dive but not uber-posh and clublike?
Fritz HaHn: the perfect bar is not a myth, but when you want to bring 20 people on a Saturday night, it’s harder to get your crew in with- out a reserva- tion. i’d suggest
the Passenger, Iron Horse Tap
Room or the upstairs wine bar
at Bistro D’Oc.
The Passenger, 1021 Seventh St. NW. 202-393- 0220.
Iron Horse Tap Room, 507 Seventh St. NW. 202-347-7665.
Bistrot D’Oc, 518 10th St. NW. 202- 393-5444.
Say hello to an old friend. The 1964 hit musical “Fiddler on the Roof ” is headed this way with infectious ditties such as “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.” Tony Award-winning stage veteran Harvey Fierstein will reprise his Broadway role of Tevye, the Jewish milkman living in Russia in the early 1900s. The bittersweet play, based on a story by Sholom Aleichem, follows the father of five girls as he struggles to reconcile his religious traditions with his headstrong daughters and an increasingly
prejudiced society. // Tuesday through May 9. National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave NW. 800-447- 7400. www.nationaltheatre.org. $51.50-$201.50.
