Woods joins Fidelity Group

DANNY Woods has been appointed Sales Director of Fidelity Group, the London-based solutions provider. Formerly founder of ADK Communications, which he sold to SpriTel in November 2009, Woods is looking forward to helping build another convergence solutions enterprise. He said: “The market is changing rapidly and Fidelity’s ability to provide customers with complete communications packages encompassing voice, data, mobile and broadband makes my new role challenging and exciting. The company has the strongest pedigree of skill sets including a billing platform, and I am looking forward to recruiting partners keen to share our high values and profits.”

CAMPBELL’S SOUP

In the pot this month... the illusion of choice:

Instinctively, we think we prefer choices, the more the merrier. But do we really? Take mobile phones as an example. Look at the successes of iPhone and BlackBerry and compare that to the relative struggles of other high profile mobile phone brands. I used to have a mobile phone and BlackBerry just for email. The last time I had to choose a mobile it was a nightmare, hundreds of phones from which to choose (or so it seemed), features I couldn’t tell the difference between, a bewildering choice. In the end, I just said, ‘I’ll have the same one as everybody else’.

I’m a BlackBerry kind of guy and a ‘power’ email user. So, like my kin, I think the iPhone is a toy and it takes me 10 times longer to type anything on them. But you can’t deny it, the iPhone

has been a roaring success due, in no small part, to its ‘desire’ factor. It’s the same with BlackBerrys... part status symbol and part joy to use. You’ve got the choice of the same one as everybody else, or the slightly cheaper one, or the slightly more expensive one. It’s easy peasy.

Lesson to be drawn from this for the channel: Keep things simple for your clients, bundle products and services, and give people simple (and aspirational) choices to make.
