Countdown to Comms Vision

BY JOHN CHAPMAN CVC Event Content Director:

It is somewhat strange to be writing about a channel gathering that will take place at the start of next winter when the clocks have only just gone forward to herald the dawn of spring! Such is the nature of being involved in the organisation of an event as important and popular as the Comms Vision Convention.

For the last four years the event has been run every November at Gleneagles in Scotland which is widely recognised as one of Europe’s finest hotels and conference venues, and those delegates who have attended in the past have enjoyed the highest quality of accommodation and service in breathtaking surroundings. However, while the prestige of the venue is unsurpassed, it is the event content and quality of engagement which makes the Comms Vision Convention so very special and so highly valued by the

enterprise focused channel delegates who attend.

The key to the event is the intermingling of reseller principals hungry to learn about new ICT profit opportunities with the vendor executives that can provide them. And CVC’s recipe of debate orientated seminars, served alongside private boardroom sessions and pre-arranged meetings, has proved to be a winning combination.

I can personally testify to a number of channel deals ultimately worth millions of pounds that were forged within the confines of Gleneagles during CVC 09.

So, in my first CVC Countdown column for 2010, my message is clear: If you are a director of an enterprise focused reseller, systems integrator or VNO, there is no time like the present to register for our 2010 event at Gleneagles, even if the thought of a misty Scottish dawn in early November is the last thing on your mind in spring time.

PBX market still in decline

THE global corded PBX market (excluding Micro PBX products) continued to deteriorate in 2009, reports MZA. The analyst notes an overall 22 per cent volume decline, which eased back to 10 per cent during Q4. According to MZA’s latest report, the worst performance was recorded in Q1 2009 when volumes dropped by 30 per cent.

IP desktop deployments continued to gain share accounting for 30 per cent of total extensions in Q4 2009 and 29 per cent for 2009 as a whole. MZA says this reflects the fact that hybrid solutions remain significant in the SME segment and retain popularity with larger enterprises, which have the need to maintain a mix

of both analogue/digital and IP desktop extensions.

Overall in 2009, the market worst affected was Eastern Europe, where annual volumes fell more than 50 per cent compared to 2008. Latin America and Middle East and Africa recorded the next most significant declines, at 25 per cent and 21 per cent.
