SOLICITORS Teacher Stern is offering comms channel compa- nies fixed fee retainers to help keep down legal costs which can spiral on hourly-based fee structures. In return for a monthly or

Watchdog gets tough with rogues

OFCOM has turned the screw on rogue comms firms that fleece cus- tomers through the mis-selling and slamming of landline services. Under strict new Ofcom rules, telcos found guilty of slamming could face fines of up to 10% of their turnover. The new regulations, which came into force on March 18th, are designed to protect consumers and enable Ofcom to take swift action against telecoms providers that break the rules. Ofcom Chief Executive Ed

Richards said: “Ofcom will not hesitate to take enforcement action against firms that don’t comply with the new rules.” Slamming and mis-selling are the most complained about issues to Ofcom in the fixed line market, averaging about 750 complaints per month over the last year.

OPAL has secured a new partner- ship with Eire telecom provider Strencom. The deal will see Opal expand its footprint into Eire for the first time. Chris Wood, Opal’s Director
