Gamma’s SIP over Ethernet
GAMMA Telecom is set to launch IP DirectConnect over Ethernet connectivity at the end of April, opening up the ISDN replacement market to its resellers. The release extends Gamma’s
SIP Trunking service to enable partners to sell a converged solu- tion to customers requiring ISDN levels of service and high band- width Internet access. Gamma Telecom delivers IP
DirectConnect over Ethernet as an end to end service, providing an availability guarantee, voice chan- nel guarantees, and a guaranteed time to fix.
The initial launch will provide
converged voice and data access in the cities and towns of London, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Croydon, Basing- stoke, Bracknell, Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes. Support in other geographic areas will become available over the next 18 months. Alan Mackie, Senior Product

Manager at Gamma Telecom, com- mented on the growing popularity of SIP: “Enterprises are realising that SIP Trunking can play a big part in reducing costs, and in the delivery of integrated business solu- tions for increased productivity. “When delivered over Ethernet, organisations can take advantage of the high bandwidth and use it to support all ICT business require- ments including voice and data.”
Alan Mackie
IP DirectConnect is aimed at a range of channel partners including IP PBX resellers, SIs, data providers and other VARs. According to Gamma, the ser-
vice allows such partners to be able to offer voice as part of their product portfolio, while adding recurring monthly revenue streams to their businesses, with other high margin cross-sell and up-sell opportunities, including billing, handsets, support and installation. SIP Trunking is touted as a flexible alternative to ISDN, and includes geographic number flex- ibility as well as free internal and inter-site calls, lower external call costs and reduced line rental. Gamma’s new service will be
delivered over a range of Ethernet speeds enabling customers with varying voice and Internet capacity requirements to be supported.

MobileIron set for expansion
US SMARTPHONE management application developer MobileIron has officially opened its European HQ in the Netherlands. The offices will be headed up by Vice President and General Manager for EMEA, Kees van Veenendaal. “We’ve been quietly selling in
Europe for the last six months,” says CEO Bob Tinker. “But the customer demand and activity has accelerated to the point where it makes sense for us to open a dedi- cated European office.” MobileIron is actively seeking
new channel partners in the UK for its Virtual Smartphone platform, Tinker stated, which is designed to help businesses manage a diverse portfolio of mobile handsets and operating systems.
Bob Tinker
“The industry so far has missed
an opportunity to add a lot of value,” says Tinker. “The enterprise needs to manage, secure and opti- mise the data on a smartphone, rather than the device itself. That creates a lot of interesting service opportunities for the channel.” MobileIron is available in the UK through Cloud Distribution.
CTI Group raised more than £1,700 in aid The Prostate Cancer Charity, as part of its support for the global Movember charity event. Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, a symbol of men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer. Participants begin the month of November clean shaven and for 30 days grow and groom their moustache. Men throughout CTI Group’s Purley and Blackburn offices took part. Andy Wilson, CTI Group’s VP of Sales and Marketing International, said: “Helping to raise funds and aware- ness for important men’s health issues like prostate cancer and depres- sion should make everyone throughout our organisation feel proud.”
Braxtel launches new Open Source solution
STL Communications and Samsung have staged a successful series of Technology Briefings at the Force India F1 team headquarters in Silverstone. More than 80 delegates heard presentations about the future of telecommunications technology and the way that new Samsung IP products can enable smarter working within an organisation. Adrian Collinson of Force India F1 discussed how its relationship with STL and Samsung has helped the team save costs on communications. Brendon Cross, STL’s MD, commented: “These seminars provided an insight into the communication challenges faced by the Force India Formula One team which are just the same as for many other businesses. Real business benefits can be achieved by working with the latest technology.”
BRAXTEL Communications has launched its Open Source Contact Centre solution, Contact Q. The SIP-based solution boasts an enterprise feature set including IVR, ACD, call recording, CTI with management reporting deliv- ered into the SMB space. Nick Thwaites, CEO of the
Nottinghamshire-based firm, commented: “A powerful new trend is emerging: UK and US Governments encourage Open Source adoption as it massively lowers the bill to the tax payer
for public sector offices, increasing efficiency and lowering costs.” According to Braxtel, the pri-
vate sector is also fully embrac- ing Open Source solutions. “Open Source is the buzzword right now. It is a strong weapon in helping UK companies stay competitive and grow margins,” added Thwaites. The Contact Q contact cen-
tre software builds on Braxtel’s established offering, the Fluency Communications Suite, and can integrate into any IP-based PBX or legacy telephone system.
Mitel affi rms key strategy
OVER 150 delegates descended on London’s May Fair hotel to hear Mitel reaffirm its commitment to a software-centric future. Last month’s Mitel Directors
Briefing provided partners with a strategic update on the vendor’s direction and product portfolio. Andy Eliot, Mitel’s Marketing
Director for the EMEA region, stated: “Mitel’s software-centric story has generated a buzz in the channel because of the benefits that it will deliver to the end user, such as cost savings, easier management and high availability.”
